The Virginia General Assembly Building has been in demolition mode since early 2018. Work has moved quickly but extra care has been taken to ensure the preservation of the 1912 façade.

The new 426,000 square foot building – scheduled to open in 2021 – will have 15-stories. The first four floors are to include various public functions such as committee rooms, a cafeteria and other meeting facilities. Above that you’ll find legislator and staff offices plus other meeting spaces.

VRMCA-member S.B. Cox Ready Mix, Inc. has been actively involved in the project. To date, they have supplied flowable fill, shotcrete, and are prepared to supply specific concrete designs throughout the long-standing project. In fact, due to timing and the substantial size of the project, a mass foundation mix utilizing 75% slag is required to keep internal temperatures down. S.B. Cox mixer trucks will start delivering concrete for the foundation within the next week or so.
